Beechworth Gallery is one of those shops that we all dream of discovering but so often just don't know it's there. Those of us that have discovered Beechworth Gallery on past trips always ensure we make the short 500 metre trip from the roundabout (heading towards Stanley of course) to rediscover the red and white striped roof and what Jean, Gerry and Jamie have managed to find for us this time.
Amongst North East Victoria's thriving art and retail community Beechworth Gallery leads the way with its constant evolution and diverse range of offerings. During winter warm open fires welcome you in from the rain over the summer months the cellar offers a cool escape from the heat and a great environment to do you Christmas gift and general home wares shopping.
And of course there's the artists from across Australia that Beechworth Gallery has become famous for. Three floors of contributions from Australian Plein Air Artists Kasey Sealy, Warwick Fuller, Bruce Roberts, Raymond Hill and Todd Whisson and the Gallery's own collection of Norman Lindsay and David Boyd etchings and regional artists.
In the now converted downstairs cellar you'll find unique furniture pieces and home décor surrounded by granite walls and colonial architecture and the distant smell of the wine, food and produce that was first stored there when the building was first established as a Wine and Spirit Merchant in 1857.
There's also the gallery's two vintage Dodges 'VISIT' (1924) and 'BWORTH' (1926) which when not trundling around the town can be seen in front of the gallery and offering a great photo memory of your trip to Beechworth.
