SUB - ALPINE SERENITY
Take a peaceful journey up the Murray and revel in Nature's beauty.
Morning
Begin your tour at the SS&A Club in Albury then head North-West to the picturesque town of Jingellic.
1. Have a snack or morning tea amongst the shady-trees at the park alongside the upper reaches of the historic Murray River.
2. Cross the river (Hello Victoria!) and make your way through quaint Walwa and Tintaldra. On your right you will see Pine Mountain, a rounded, granite monolith 1.5 times the size of Uluru.
3. A little further up the track you will reach Towong - regarded as "Flemington of the
Bush". At Towong you'll find Towong Racecourse where horses have pounded the turf since 1871. Its grandstand is a fine example of Victorian architecture. Time your visit right and you will experience the excitement of the Annual Towong Cup!
4. Further up river you will reach Khancoban, an historic hamlet at the base of the Snowy Mountains. The township was originally built to accommodate workers and their families during construction of the mammoth Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. Khancoban overlooks a lake and provides a great base to many popular trout streams, an ideal location for fishing and aquasports or a unique game of golf with the wildlife at the Khancoban Country Club.
