Yackandandah

Welcome to Yackandandah

The old mining township of Yackandandah is located between Beechworth and Albury Wodonga on the edge of the Kiewa Valley. Like its neighbour Chiltern, Yackandandah has featured in numerous Australian period films, and has the added distinction of being classified an historic town by the National Trust.

Wander around the town's stately buildings to see the elaborate façades and decorative columns that built during the gold rush of the 1800s. Take the Historic Buildings Street Walk and admire the shops that have their original fittings and features.

The Yackandandah cemetery is notable for its large section of graves devoted to Chinese gold miners, as well as for several magnificent trees that are listed on the National Trust Significant Tree Register.

Browse in museums, antique stores and craft galleries, indulge your senses at the nearby Lavender Farm or take a guided tour of an underground gold mine at the Karrs Reef Goldmine.

The town is also an ideal setting for leisurely outdoor activities. Walk or drive through the picturesque Yackandandah Gorge, paddle a canoe on the lake at Allan's Flat or enjoy a relaxing picnic one of the town's tranquil parks.
